Well I finally got my first Losi Micro Rock Crawler video done and uploaded. This was done mostly on the iPhone again. I say mostly as I had to transfer the video file to the computer to actually upload it to YouTube. But all shots and editing were done on iPhone. This time I tried a different video editing app: Splice. Go to my other blog where I will give my opinions on using this one.
I have been having fun with this little monster. Trying to come up with new obstacles and track layouts is half the fun. The other half, or coarse, actually driving and navigating them. The only sad thing is that Losi has discontinued this particular model of their Micro Rock Crawler. I would love to get another one to have fun with my nephews creating new tracks and then driving them. The crawler did have several tumbles. I will work on and upload an "outtakes" video, and get a count of them.
Well, on to the show...
I know, another long R/C video. I'll have to work on trying to get more "action" in if I'm going to keep making them like this.

Crawler Update
The Micro Crawler movie is slow going. I have the video shot and ready to use, I just need to get busy on it. One thing I can show is a movie poster:
On another project, I am working on getting my Venom Creeper setup with some extra functions. While disassembling, I came across some stripped set screws (or grub screws). So far I have not found an easy removal process. Plan B is to use my Dremel with a metal-cutting wheel. This ought to be interesting, since it's my first metal work (or should I say hack). I also grabbed some dust masks and safety glasses. We'll see how things go this Saturday.
Until next update, Nanu Nanu!
(this film has not yet been rated)

Upcoming project...
I am working on a new video involving my Losi Micro Crawler. It's on an indoor coarse in the computer room, but no computer crawling...yet. And yes it is a computer room, not a man-cave. My wife does use the room too. Shooting the video was a little odd using the iPhone since I don't have any sort of tripod. But that's a challenge for another day. The run was fun. I may post some previews later, if I can find any preview worthy shots.

A Desert Crawler
This is my blog dedicated to my R/C crawling. I have a few crawlers now, and will add more in the future. Why crawling? Because it is slow. As it turns out, even though I enjoy the R/C hobby I am actually a terrible driver when it comes to fast cars and trucks. With crawling, I can keep better control of the vehicle. Also, you don't do a lot of track style racing. Crawling, at least non-comp crawling, has no track limitations. With the right setup, you can go anywhere.
Enough blah, blah, blah. On to the trucks!
First up is my Venom Creeper. This was a fun kit to assemble. Unfortunately, I don't have the proper running gear. I did pick up a high-torque servo and a 55t brushed motor. This helped me get started. I still have this rig, but it is currently "in the shop". Since it is a comp based crawler, I am actually trying to work on getting 4 wheel steering operational on it.
The second one is the Losi Micro Rock Crawler. This is a RTR 1/24 micro scale crawler designed mostly for indoor and small spaces. I picked this up to enjoy crawling during the cold days. It is a very capable rig, and can bring out the creativeness to setup indoor courses. Normally I don't like going for the Ready-To-Run purchases, but this is a good deal as you get everything you need. That's right, batteries are included!
The third rig is an Axial SCX10 Trail Honcho scale kit. A scaler is a crawler that has a more realistic feel and function to it. When done up right, you can hardly tell if it's R/C or real. The scalers offer a basis for many detailed projects. If you look on www.rccrawler.com, you will see pictures and posts of many good looking rigs and projects. In fact while I was researching around on the SCX10, I came across a few YouTube videos that have given me a few plans for mine. Right now, I have a few external details (wipers and mirrors) and some working lights. We'll see what happens down the road.
And here is a video of it's first run. The video does have some slow spots and some film mistakes, but keep in mind that this is an amateur video done only on my iPhone.
More crawling to come.
